Now i mainly do funk gigs with my electric. either way it's come in handy. |

But for smooth jazz I like to have the low B. Not as many solos in smooth jazz either. A 6 would be ideal, but for me the extra string seems to get in the way and those necks are just a little too wide for my little hands.
Maybe I need to start looking for another 5'er... |

I was fortunate enough to play in a duo and trio setting with a piano player who let me stretch out. At times, we got into this whole Bill Evans/Jim Hall but lower duo thing.
Some of the best musical fun I have ever had in my life.
It was great for learning lead lines, and how to play chords. I still have a 5 strung that way.

I have my first jazz duo gig (w/the E-C bass) in Athens this Saturday and I'm going to be using a looping pedal and comp'ing chords under him... Should be a learning experience. Quote:

Maybe I need to start looking for another 5'er... | I like 5's (tried the 6 route, didn't dig it), so my intentions are to bring either a B-G and E-C 5'ver, or B-G and Fretless 4 to most gigs these days.
.... so anyother cats I should check out? |
