Hi guys.
I wanna buy myself a 5 string and I want you to write here the coolest (in your opinion) bassplayers who play on a 5-string with fingers.

Cheers

William Murderface. Though he doesn't always play it with just his fingers ...

Stuart Zender on the first 3 Jamiroquai albums (5 string Warwick Streamers live, though I suspect he used a couple of 4's in the studio).

Nathan East, though he's been playing a six-string for the last four years or so.

Someone who plays exclusively fingerstyle, and is an absolute monster on the 5-sting, is Jimmy Johnson. He is also arguably the first person to play a 5-string bass.

These are great examples guys. But keep them coming.

There are no boundries about the genres. They could be jazz they could be rock, punk, funk, metal, nu meta, rapcore EVERYTHING.

You'd be surprised at the recordings that featured a 5er. Flea appears to have played a 5 on a number of tracks from Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

If you listen closely, you start to hear low notes popping up in all manner of recordings...

Killer indeed - especially on a tune I have only ever heard with a SLAPPED bassline.

Dang.

Alphonso Johnson
Tony Levin (Ok, he's using pretty everything to hit the strings of his bass...but he can considered a fingerstyle player!)
Will Lee (when he plays a 5 strings)

Even if alredy named, I must say Nathan East and Jimmy Johnson, two fabulous players!!

Tommy Kennedy does slap (and very well) but just not a lot! Will Lee and Nathan East also slap. They are not strictly fingerstyle players.

Marcus was the bassist on the studio recording. He funked it up, too. However, Jimmy Johnson's finger funk is just as smelly!

I loves me some Marcus.....but this reminds me of seeing Anthony Jackson play Just the Two of Us live with Grover Washington Jr. on YouTube - love the original MM lines, but Anthony brought a whole new groove to it that was great and of course, no slapping.

To me, slap the strings, play them with your fingers, hit them with a rusty spoon - as long as its funky, it's good
