Can anyone show me pics of bass players from the 60's using white fender basses? I'm trying to decide in which color to buy a '62 RI P, white or sunburst, and I want to see if olympic white was used then. Thanks.

I use to own an Olympic white Fender Jazzmaster... built in 61-62. That color was definitely used then.

The Bass Book has a pic of a gorgeous oly white 1960 jazz with the original stacked knobs. Not only was that color used, it is one of (if not the) classic looks...the '62 look with the white and tort guard....yummy!

In '74, I really wanted a white P-bass w/ a maple neck...came close but didn't happen, then I was glad cause I got into natural wood basses w/ ebony necks.
Nowadaze wishing I had gotten it 'cause I know I would still have it.
IIRC, I wanted a white bass because Dennis Dunaway sometimes played a white Fender (Jazz).
I looked for some pictures & didn't find any; did come across this nice interview, though-

I got me a 62RI in Olympic White with Tort p/g, rosewood board. I'll post a pic or two when I get home.

Certainly was a standard colour, and dead sexy too!

Just for reference, to the original poster:

Olympic White is slightly creamish.

Arctic White is very bright white.

IIRC - this swapped around for a period in the 70's didn't it???

John Wetton played a gorgeous white P with King Crimson in '72-'74. There were a couple of videos on youtube recently from then. I don't know about '62, though I am sure there were a lot around.

Actually that's wrong. AW is "off" white, OW is bright white.

That's exactly what I mean by swapping it around. My 62RI is in Olympic White, and it is off white, or creamish.

I heard that they changed the names around in the early 70's.
