| Hmmm, I don't play a fraction of what this kat plays, but I thought:
-Bunch of scales runs a lick, not much real improvisation;
-Well schooled, but not a whole lot of personality coming through;
-When he's scatting, his voice is following the licks, not the other way around. I think that scatting alongside an instrument is more creative when your hands follow your voice, not the other way around.
-He tends to rush time a little bit.
BUT, the guy is a monster player, no doubt, and I enjoyed his playing very much.
It just sounds to me that he spends/spent too much time in school or with standard charts instead of developing his own voice/style.
