I'm lucky enough to have Abe come to my church once in a while. Here's a video I shot when he played in July

the thing i like about guys like laboriel is they don't play to impress people they just play the music; which cant be said for a lot of other guys...

its almost like a lot of the chop guys have the technical prowess but to 99% of the none musicians who listen to music the music is emotionally unappealing and doesn't move them at all..

Oh well

I first heard Abe when Gary Burton's "The New Quartet" album came out (I was in high school). Abe's playing on "Open Your Eyes, You Can Fly" blew me away. I've been an Abe fan ever since (and that was over 35 years ago - yikes).

My pleasure. Here's another from a few years ago, I casually shot it with my phone but I think it's still worth viewing... Love you Abe!

I think so too. Lots of the bass players who are more famous that Abraham seem to be able to play all of his technique and more, but somehow they don't do as well at capturing the feel, the groove, the joy, the same way that he does.

My favorite Laboriel album is the live
double album with Al Jarreau from Europe.
