Adam Blackstone and Al Green

Blackstone is tearing it up on this new Al Green album--check it out!

I'm wondering what kinda gear he used for this--everything is pretty damn period-correct sounding, but the the bass COULD be a "modern" bass just produced into old-school turf. I do think I heard a few "below low-E" notes in there somewhere . . .

Blackstone, Pino and Lacy are ripping through the soul scene. I have this song "Thought It Out" by Al Green that was produced by ?uestlove and family that's not on the album that Blackstone is tearing through. Possibly the best song but didn't make the album.

You should check out the latest issue of Waxpoetics. It features Al Green on the cover and has an interview with ?uestlove. Apparently ?uestlove had to work on Adam to play more simply to get the proper grove. ?uestlove even detuned Adam's strings to help hit some "wrong notes" to get closer to the orginial vibe of the classic Al Green tracks.

I need to pick that album up, I read a interview with ?uestlove and it seemed like it would be a great match.

Man, any of those cats would have been hot on this.
I was kind of expecting a much more obvious old-school flatwound kind of sound, but Adam's tone totally works--it sits right in the right spot.
Man, he does some melodic little bits here and there that are soooo sweet. I read the interview with ?uestlove too, and I actually think Blackstone got away with playing pretty busy on many tracks (and it's perfect for the song in his hands!)

Has anyone hears Adam Blackstone on Jill Scott's Live in Paris CD? He's tearing it up on FRETLESS!
