So a friend and I were watching some U2 videos last night, because they were pretty rocking. And so I thought to myself I'd see if Adam's ever done a solo, youtubed it, and this was the first thing that came up. I found it pretty amazing to say the least. Adam Clayton Solo |

anyone? | Yeah dude, but in "Bullet the Blue Sky" as it's tabbed here, he actually hits the "e" on the A string alternately with the open E.

Seriously though, he's playing exactly what their songs require, not more or less. But a solo concert with those basslines would be rather boring I believe...

From wikipedia:
"Bono says '(You) never know what he's going to say, but more importantly, you never know what he's going to play'. Bono proceeds to cite the band's hit song, "Bullet the Blue Sky", as a song with a weird sounding bassline, citing that Clayton is playing in a different key from the rest of the band"
"Clayton's often uncomplicated bass playing serves as a solid foundation for U2's songs. Part of the reason that Clayton's basslines are so uncomplicated is due to the fact that upon joining the band, he could scarcely play bass at all."

All from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Clayton | So? That's a primitive description of harmony, but it works... the intro to Layla is two guitars 'playing in different keys.'
And personally, I don't cite things from Wikipedia, because wikipedia is one shallow step up from "some anonymous guy on the internet says..." an in any case there was a time when any name bassist could barely play at all because he was just starting out.

Still, that's a funny video even though I really dig Adam's playing. |
