I wasn't sure where to post this one, under recordings or bassists. I caught Adam's show at NAMM on thursday night and ended up seeing him again as the "house bassist" for an all-star guitar jam on saturday. First, If anyone knows me they know I am not a "bass heroes" kind of guy. I don't own the latest Wooten, and while I'm sure Bill Dickens is a nice guy and can slap really really fast, my general reaction is, so what? What really impressed me about Adam was the quality of his groove playing and the way he walked in to a really straight musical situation (the all star jam) and just laid down unpretentious quality low end. Both Tom (tombowlus) and I were commenting how Adam could play circles around the mediocre soloist on that stage, but he just concentrated on making the band work. He was truly a consummate professional.
Anyway, the newest Adam Nitti CD ( Liminal) is really hot, I wore it out on the way home from Nashville. 1) It is Music, not a bass display. 2) It has some great song writing, with great melodies. With "Redemption Song" being in the league with some of Methenys work. 2) It has some phenomenal playing. Very cool, I would definitely recommend. And yes he can lay it down.

| | | | Still havent heard Liminal, but big fan of Adam Nitti. The man has awesome grooves and his lines are just amazing. The composition is one of the areas that I would like to improve, and surely if I'm doing some study on that, my goal is having the skills and taste of somebody like Adam. |

Adam has everything that we should all strive for as bass players-great tone, technique, groove, fretboard mastery and chops!!! He is also a very gifted instructor and, as far as I can tell, a very cool person! Check out this KILLER TRACK from the Adam Nitti & Liquid Blue CD, "Kung Fu". Any guesses as to what brand of bass Adam is playing here? (If you have the CD, then you already know): http://www.myspace.com/adamnittiliquidblue

I am not much on solo-ist bassists, but as I told Tom...I really think that Adam is the best at doing "the job" as a bassist in his genre.
Good seeing you Steve!

| Absolutely! Man, what a great player, and what a nice guy, as well. Adam is a real team player, both within the band and also within the bass community.

And yes, what an absolutely awesome, humble, smart cat this guy is. He has as much flash as Vic Wooten, but he plays for the song over anything else.
That guy can GROOVE!
