AJ Pappas / Popa Chubby

I saw Popa Chubby last weekend. The music was simply incredible.
Great music, tight band, impeccable audio. Seeing these guys play was
a near-religious experience for me.

AJ Pappas gave a superb performance on bass. His bass had a classic
Fender Jazz tone (I'm pretty certain that's a Fender Jazz bass that lost
its decal). My perception was that most of his sound was coming from
a single 115 cab which I thought was pretty surprising (is that a 115 or is
it bigger?).

Keyboardist was Dave Keyes. He showed off outstanding vocals and
piano playing in an opening act set with Woody Mann. That guy is a
pro through and through.

Dan Hickey gave a first class performance on drums.

Popa Chubby -- he is the man!

Hellz yeah, you gotta love Popa Chubby and his killer band(s). Last time I heard him he was playing with Vicious Country, the band he has with his wife on bass at Rodeo Bar (free!) If you get the chance go hear Popa Chubby (and AJ) you'll thank me later.

AJ, Popa Chubby and Dan made another appearance last night in
Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. This night, they were a 3-piece band. It was
another phenomenal performance. AJ takes a bass solo in this one; be
sure to check it out here:

Thanks guys!

I was reading some forums on this site and saw my name! What a nice surprise. Thanks Warnergt and JMJ for the kind words. To answer your question about my bass, it was a usa fender 62' jazz reissue. I replaced the pickups, bridge and neck (which is a warmouth), and the stacked knobs as well. The craftsmanship on the reissue was sub-par. I now use a MIM Fender Roadworn jazz and I love it as is. Hope to see you guys at a show sometime!
