This must be like the fourth time that video has been posted.

I've watched it more than that, though... :-) it helped me decide on some features for my own new Benavente.

Oh, and Al sure can play! Chops, chops, chops.

I think it's a roland... I'm not sure really though. He had just seen / tried / tested an 11 string Midi bass for the first time at that NAMM session. That coupled with the limitations of the Camera's built in mic AND video compression for the web have affected the tone some.

PM Al and I'm sure he'll give you the gear run down...

check out some of his tunes at myspace! http://www.myspace.com/alcaldwelland...lackhillbillys

I do believe that is the Roland GR-20 guitar-synth pedal.

Somebody really, really good! But I got the same impressions from some of the sounds. Let's hope MIDI synth stuff continues to get better.

IIRC that was from exactly a year ago at NAMM 2005 when the Benne was brand new.

I can never see that get posted enough. I have the file on one of my PCs here somewhere. Thanks to Brian for shooting that!!!

BTW, we just had a VERY late Christmas with my wife's family and my brother-in-law got me 2 of Al's solo CDs, "Forbidden" and "Bass for Lovers". Haven't had the chance to listen to them yet, but I can't wait!!!

It appears that Al can do anything on the instrument. I haven't heard a large body of his work, but a little piece called "No Punks Allowed" won me over on the spot.

If I were a modern Steely Dan, Al would be one of my dream players.
