Alain Caron

So I was in Canada on a trip... and I went into a music store that sold primarily classical music, Canadian folk music, ambient stuff, and jazz. Very classy store. One of the clerks came up to me cause he saw I was browsing the jazz and we started talking and he said he was a bass player and I was like ahh me too, but anyway he hands me this album Conversations by Alain Caron. He's a Canadian bassist. The album itself is duets with him on an acoustic bass guitar (very weird but he pulls it off well and gets an bright upright sounding tone) and piano (as well as vibraphone)

The album is awesome and he is a great artist and bassist. I havent heard a bassist get a tone that speaks so much since Jaco himself. I don't know if you can get his stuff outside of Canada but he is really good.

Apparently he was in a fusion band in the 80s and now hes doing this thing which is so cool.

Anyone know him? Did I make a neat discovery or have I just been left out of the loop?

Yeah, you've pretty much been left out of the loop

Alain has been kicking ass for a while now. His new album Conversation is pretty good, I especially like his playing on Ivoires, incredible stuff! My favorite album of his has to be the album he did with Didier Lockwood and Jean-Marie Ecay.

Search the forums and you'll find much discussion about AC here at TB.

His 80's fusion band was called Uzeb.

I love Alain Caron, he is amazing.

His fretless playing is superb and he always looks so relaxed and cool when he plays. Great tone too.

Hai Guy's.

I know him for many years and he's one of my biggest favorites and a very good (indirect) teacher! That's why I started this thread last week .... just watch and enjoy ...

Stocked? ... or d'you have enough from boring blueslicks?

Any bassist good enough to get Gino Vannelli to ditch the synth bass (from his brothers left hand) is worthy of my praise.

No so big on Uzeb, but Alain's solo career is my favorite fusion type music ever. He's a musician first, a bassist second. Most solo bassists seem to make the music a vessel for their chops, Alain actually writes good songs.

I just picked up his album "Le Band" today at a used CD store. I haven't listened to it yet but I bought it based on hearing so many people on this board mention his name.
