yep indeed it was, i even manage to have a beer with him and share a few words. We were like 5 bass players surrounding him and he was pretty cool and easy going. I told him I was from Venezuela and he even told me about some jazz musicians from Venezuela which he had played with.

If its the same show, you are up for some really great stuff, the violin player was smoking, maybe even better then Caron.

This was a pretty intimate place maybe even less then 250 people, even thou it was full.

Its called Sep7entrion, it says it will feature his newest album.
Alain Caron is from the province of Quebec so I guess it'll be a good show,
the luthier shop that setups my instruments built a rather nice fretless acoustic bass for him.

His website seems to indicate he will be posting/selling partition of his work. That is a very nice initiative I would like to see more often.

Anyway, I digress,
I'll be there early.

Wow, thanks for posting these. I'll be seeing Alain live at LA's Baked Potato this coming Thursday and the place is about the size of an oversized shoe box.

It looks as if he's using a pair of his signature stereo cabinets in those pics which still haven't been officially released to the buying public by Markbass.

I was just at NAMM and the Markbass rep there said he didn't think Alain would be using them at this upcoming show but I hope he's wrong! I've been really interested in that stereo setup Alain is developing with them and this looks to be my only real opportunity to hear it. They only had pieces of it at NAMM but not the cabinets. The Markbass guy said they jumped the gun in announcing it at last years NAMM show and they still don't have all the bugs worked out but that it definitely would come to market at some point.

No matter what though the main thing will be seeing Alain and his awesome playing.

I recently saw Mike Stern as well at the Catalina Bar and Grill but you're lucky to have seen him with Lockwood and Caron. Who's that on drums BTW? If I had to guess I'd say Mark Mondesir. Dennis Chambers was drumming for Stern when I saw him.

Here's the concert info for the Baked Potato BTW.

Thursday
January 20, 2011

ALAIN CARON QUARTET
OTMARO RUIZ on KEYS
CHARLES ALTURA on GUITAR
DAMIEN SCHMITT on DRUMS
ALAIN CARON on BASS
CONTEMPORARY JAZZ FUSION
$20.00

I know that show's going to totally kill and I won't miss it for the world.

Thanks again for sharing the photos!

waoo thats the project he told me about. Otmaro Ruiz is an amazing Venezuelan pianist, when i told Caron about me being from Venezuela he started talking wonderful things about Otmaro, haven't had the opportunity to seem him live, but from what I heard he is amazing.

I saw Otmaro in the summer of 2009 with Frank Gambale, Simon Phillips, and Bunny Brunel. He was INSANE! Harmonized two handed solos so ridiculous only done as easily as one of us might blow our nose.

I also saw Charles Altura, the guitarist he'll be with, playing with Virgil Donati in November and that guy is also from another planet.

Should be a great show.

One of these days I'm going to jump into the fire myself there and play at their Monday night jams. The house band at the Baked Potato Jam Night are some of the guys who tour in Dweezil Zappa's Zappa does Zappa band.

Also check out John McLaughlin's Heart of Things Live in Paris. Otmaro Ruiz is on that plus Dennis Chambers and Matt Garrison on bass. Good stuff!

I'll write a review of the Caron Show and post it here. Will also try to post pics but they will surely not be as professional looking as yours.
