Alice in Chains bassist:Mike Inez amazing!

Was watching their MTV unplugged concert, absolutely envious of this guys bass lines, just unreal!

His bass has the meanest sound I've ever heard out of an acoustic bass, could also have been his amp.
Just about persuaded me to go and buy an acoustic!

Mhmm ok, he cannot be considered amazing...because he´s not shredding/slapping his @ss off? Just curious?

He´s an amazing rock player in my book.

Agreed. Great tone, great lines, great band. I mean, "Rooster", "A Little Bitter", "Would?", "Down in a Hole", to name just a few of the best rock bass lines ever. Plus, his stuff with Ozzy ain't bad either, although I do prefer the way he stands out more in AIC.

His time touring with Heart was great as well. You can tell the difference between him and the guy who replaced him in Heart. The "drive" wasn't there after he left.

Loved his stuff w/ AIC.

Actually, only one of those songs was played by Mike Inez, which is A Little Bitter. The others were played by Mike Starr, the original bassist for the band. But still, Mike Inez has great stuff on Alice in Chains' self titled album, for example "Brush Away" and "Again"

Can't remember the name of the song on MTV Unplugged, just the one song , maybe it was their earlier bassist. Had long curly mattered hair looking like the archetypal metal head anyhow. Sounded like Kim Deal with +10 to her technique. Saying that shes not a half bad bassist in my books either!

No More Tears is a surprisingly simple yet complicated riff. Its simple to play yet tough to feel right. But there's been some controversy over who actually played that one.

According to both of them Inez wrote the main riff part, but Daisley played it on the record.

I used to work with Mike Inez at this record warehouse in the San Fernando Valley. This was around 1987, not too long before he joined Ozzy. There were a ton of guys named Mike there, and we called them all by "M" plus a number -- "M1," "M2," etc. It went up to "M13." Mike Inez was "M8."

Lots of washed up LA metal dudes also worked there -- guys from cheesy early-80s bands like Pandemonium and Black & Blue. One of the Pandemonium guys had a small but (unintentionally) amusing part in Decline of Civilization Part 2. Mike Inez was one of the few guys there on his way up rather than his way down!

Anyway, the above is apropos of pretty much nothing -- just an amusing anecdote.

That's a pretty cool story.Sometimes I have to look twice at Inez and Starr. They both have that hair-farm thing goin' on.

Nothing mindblowing? Jesus. He would be if he could shred though, or what? =P What does it take really? The man can obviously groove, has a great feel, is really tight. I mean, what more could you ask for from a bassist?
