Was watching their MTV unplugged concert, absolutely envious of this guys bass lines, just unreal!
His bass has the meanest sound I've ever heard out of an acoustic bass, could also have been his amp.
Just about persuaded me to go and buy an acoustic!

I mean, "Rooster", "A Little Bitter", "Would?", "Down in a Hole", to name just a few of the best rock bass lines ever. Plus, his stuff with Ozzy ain't bad either, although I do prefer the way he stands out more in AIC. |

You can tell the difference between him and the guy who replaced him in Heart. The "drive" wasn't there after he left.
Loved his stuff w/ AIC.

The others were played by Mike Starr, the original bassist for the band. But still, Mike Inez has great stuff on Alice in Chains' self titled album, for example "Brush Away" and "Again" |

Had long curly mattered hair looking like the archetypal metal head anyhow. Sounded like Kim Deal with +10 to her technique. Saying that shes not a half bad bassist in my books either!

This was around 1987, not too long before he joined Ozzy. There were a ton of guys named Mike there, and we called them all by "M" plus a number -- "M1," "M2," etc. It went up to "M13." Mike Inez was "M8."
Lots of washed up LA metal dudes also worked there -- guys from cheesy early-80s bands like Pandemonium and Black & Blue. One of the Pandemonium guys had a small but (unintentionally) amusing part in Decline of Civilization Part 2. Mike Inez was one of the few guys there on his way up rather than his way down!
Anyway, the above is apropos of pretty much nothing -- just an amusing anecdote. |
