Yeah, but when you get older it's often a part of your musical development to open your ears to more genres if you hadn't already. And the more playing experience you get, the more you realize that music you weren't "into" earlier, is harder to play well than stuff that seemed so impressive and tough back when...

guitarists can't appreciate Jaco his playing is amazing, i guess thats kind of playing doesn't thrill me as i'm young and the first bassists that inspired me we're Billy sheehan and speed metal players

The only way to learn an instrument and music is to look to the past

There are so many "good" players you see who post vids of them selves playing things like A portrait of Tracy etc

its easy for a lesser experienced bassist and musician like me to get caught up in what is true mastery and what isn't so

after Zen and some enlightenment from the other TB users here

After listening and watching all his stuff again after thinking about the time period the style then and now i have realized,
