The All New Julie Slick thread

Sign in to disble this ad
Continued from here:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/ju...k-again-624895

Seemed like a good time to start a new thread, as the old one has gone stale for awhile with ABPT on hiatus. (BTW, Belew has been in Amsterdam recording and performing the entire "e" album with the Metropole Orchestra -- lots of clips available now available on youtube. Awesome!)

Anyway, Julie evidently is part of a new all-star (and all-female) band that is making its debut this Saturday, March 12, in Somerville, NJ. You can read about it here:

http://www.nj.com/messenger-gazette/...ness_at_b.html

Julie, can you tell us any more about this? It looks like it could be a really exciting project!

I've been wondering what's up with Julie, checked her site not long ago and didn't see any updates. The album still rocks!

It sounds to me like Julie's going to be one of the opening acts at this event, though it's not clear who's playing with her. It's for a very good cause, that's for sure.

That article is a little misleading; Julie is definitely the bassist in the band. Here's a link to Robin Slick's (Julie's mom) blog, where she first spilled the beans on Pink Revolver some time ago:

I did! The last news item is from October. I guess I could read through the Twitter feed and see if there's any news there, but I dunno.

I don't follow her twitter, but because her recent tweets are displayed on her website I see them whenever I go there to look for updates (which is fairly regularly). Over the last couple of months I have seen mentions on several occasions to trips to New York for rehearsals. I don't recall any of these saying specifically with whom, but I presume it's probably this group as Getter, Sessions, and Rachel Z are (I think) all based there.

I don't do Twitter, or facebook or any of that stuff. I guess I'm too old.

I don't check websites 'cause I'm too lazy.

I get my news about Julie when i get a monthly reminder from TB.

Julie,
I'd love to come see you play. I checked your web site, but the only dates posted are from last year.

I'm in Horsham. Are you going to be playing around Philly at all.

Yikes. Here's hoping that "when my desktop becomes available" doesn't mean something terrible, like "it crashed and it's in the shop," but rather something more like "I'm currently not where the computer is but I will be soon."

Come to think of it, maybe we can interview you while we're waiting for an update. Let's try this:

As to why your desktop is not currently available...

Post "1" if "it crashed and it's in the shop"

or

Post "2" if "I'm currently not where the computer is but I will be soon."

or

Post "3" if the answer is "other."

We're gonna find out what you're up to one way or the other....

Okay... My precious MBP was stolen in January from a previously trustworthy green room in Philly. Since then it's been hard for me to keep on emails, website updates, forums, etc. since I have to share our home desktop computer and have been on-the-go a lot lately. Luckily, I'm now typing this on my new laptop (thanks to renter's insurance) so hopefully I'll be posting more often.

An attempt to catch up:

I did indeed play on Saturday with the ladies previously mentioned - we were billed as Pink Revolver AKA Femfuze - I don't know what the title of the project will be, but I do expect to do more gigs around Philly and NYC. We're playing originals of Jane's, Rachel's and Viv's as well as covers of classic songs by female artists.

I am also now involved in a project called Dragon King - it's best described as an indie dance band... I'm not on any of the officially released songs but I will be in the future... we have a gig at the Barbary in Philly April 30th. Warriors EP | Dragon King

PAPER CAT will be featured next month on Philly's local NBC station... the show is called "Musicbox." Hope a youtube will be posted of our semi-acoustic performance. We're also re-mixing some of our previously recorded tracks with the hopes of releasing an EP by the start of summer.

I of course am also working on my next solo project... I'll be putting up a kickstarter next week with cool packages...

Playing a duo show in Phoenixville March 26th with my friend Carl Bahner...

I'm also adding bass tracks to solo drums by G. Calvin Weston.

Playing at Triumph in Old City Philly June 7 with Eric, Tim Motzer, and Chris Cuzme...

Working on a cookbook...

I hope I didn't forget anything...

Thanks for the update, Julie -- and sorry to hear about the laptop!

So what direction is the new solo album headed? Have any new tricks up your sleeve?

Well, I have some stuff up on soundcloud... the amount of trickery will depend on how much is donated to the kickstarter...

I hadn't heard of kickstarter before, but I just checked it out and it looks pretty cool. Count me in: I'll be glad to support the bass-shred cause! I trust you'll announce on your web site when you've got that set up?

Of course of course! I should definitely have it up by the end of the month (hopefully next week). If you guys have any package suggestions...
