He is the man! My mother had all the classic Doobie Brothers albums when I got my first bass. I probably played along with more Tiran Porter than anyone in my formative years. GREAT bass player!

Just watched the whole interview and was pretty disappointed! Man, he really doesn't seem to have good memories of the Doobie experience!

Yeh, I saw the same bitter pill surface in an interview with Bass Player magazine. It is disappointing; you have an image in your mind that these guys just had this totally great cosmic experience together- he used to smile constantly onstage while he played and sang, like he was right where he wanted to be.

Agreed entirely. Now I wish he would have went on more about it - I want to know what the problem was!

I thgought the interviewer guy was pretty clueless, however, not knowing anything about Toulouse Street.

The main problem with the Doobies was he was just sick of touring.

Unfortunately, there were a lots of demons in the original lineup of the Doobies. Many problems with drugs and sickness that took a toll on them over the years. I remember several years back that Tiran had to fight off some serious addictions and he was not alone. I started playing about the time they came out with their second album. Man, they were HUGH and were so tight. Their music always brings a smile to my face. Glad to see that Tiran is doing well, more power to him!

He also lamented not receiving writing credits in BP magazine.
In particular, he mentioned how he wrote the lyrics for the slow bluesy part of "Jesus Is Just Alright" (a cover tune originally by The Byrds), but couldn't sing them because they weren't in his vocal range. Not sure how he could get credits on that, but I'm sure he knows the business.
Anyhow, he still comes across as a great individual. Always one of my personal favorite players. Tom Johnston made sure he got credit for the lead guitar interlude of "Another Park, Another Sunday" on the Wolftrap DVD, which I thought was cool.
