Allen Woody's tone and playing absolutely FLOORED me the first time I heard him. Then, with Gov't Mule??Awesome.Awesome.Awesome.He's easily one of my favorite"straight-ahead"rock bassists out there.Very, very melodic player.Wow.Allen Woody really changed my perspective on how a short-scale bass can sound.Waaay huge.If you younger guys/gals aren't familiar with his playing,do yourself a favor, check him out.I really would've liked to see him in a live setting.Oh,well.Another great one taken away from us too soon.
Here's a pretty cool, informative interview that I ran across recently.Check out his bass collection.Whoa!!Between 450-500 basses. All of them were sold after his passing.Anybody lucky enough to snatch one up??Here goes:

Weird. I've never heard of this Allen Woody character. And who's this band, "Gov't Mule" that you mention?

Just kidding. The second band I was ever in was called "Rocking Horse".

Also, I find it curious that you used spaces in between words, except where you use punctuation. What's up with that?

Please understand,I'm a guy who never got into this web stuff up until about 7 mos. ago.So therefore,I don't know all of the 'net/TB "etiquette".So,yes I am a"greenhorn"(or,it could be that I'm just a hick from W.V. that don't give a rat's ass) when it comes to how I am supposed to "structure" my posts/replies.As long as they are understood, professor.

I've been gigging close to 30 years now,and doing studio work for around 20 yrs.So therefor,I do have some pretty thick skin.I welcome the constructive criticism(That's how you learn, ain't it?).So,I guess I have some sheddin' to do when it comes to typing my posts.

Sure,I know there are vultures lurking in the shadows on here, just waiting.Waiting to to catch someone making a mistake so they can swoop down and sink their claws in.Whether it's how they dot their "I's" or cross their "T's".If that makes them feel bigger, better,or if they are that hungry for attention, they should start playin' guitar,or be a lead singer.

Sorry to inconvenience all the readers w/my posts.Hell,I didn't know I signed up for an on-line writing class.

Back on Topic:

Check out the clip towards the end at the 2:03 min. mark. How cool is that??
I don't think there isn't a bassist out there that hasn't dreamed of being able to "cut loose" in a 3-piece band like that.Best feeling in the world, having that kinda freedom and being locked in tight w/the drummer and guitar player.

Jammin' with a tight 3-piece band??Priceless.

PEACE,
