This is a really well done website, and is a great tribute to a really successful and influential pro.

It's been a few years since I visited Alphonso's site. The last time I did, I was able to print out lessons that included reading excercises utilizing scales and various fingerings and examples of bass lines. Hopefully, he will add these soon. The statement he made that really sticks in my head when I'm practicing is whatever excercises you work on, always keep it musical.

I hadn't seen that clip with Wayne Shorter. Sweet.

It's funny, I still remember when a friend turned me on to Mysterious Traveller back around 74-75. That was a big moment in how I looked at my chosen instrument. I've been a fan of Alphonso "Slim" Johnson ever since.

and back then we were about the same size.

I could go there...but I won't.

10 years ago, Jazz Is Dead was in-town...AJ showed up w/ Jimmy Herring for an Oteil Burbridge clinic.
The most impressive thing I still recall about that clinic? AJ looked as though he had not aged since those Weather Report days. I even asked him at his website about "How do you do it"? He mentioned, IIRC, his genes, clean living & meditation.
