Well, I was playing with him and let me tell you, He KILLS playing bottom! His playing left me speechless, and I was honored and humbled to play with him. What you are hearing was an impromptu groove we started playing, I had just met him and it was like we'd been friends for years. He is a great person and an AWESOME player. Why all the comparisons all the time? There are MANY great players on this planet!!

If the man himself says he's great, I know I'm not gonna argue!

It's okay... you guys can still have your own opinions.

My opinion? Nobody does a better Gouche than Andrew. Nobody does Matt Garrison better than Matt.

As it should be.

Though there are many who try to do just that! I prefer the original. Jam on.

True but for me this about the only better that really matters when it comes to musicians... be the best "you" you can or want to be... leave the rest to the guys with the scorecards.

It's not possible to be a better Andrew Gouche than the original. Those seeking to be imitations are missing the point.

+1x10^23!!!!

Reminds me of an old Electro Voice ad that I saw in Bass Player featuring Stanley Clarke:

Definitely. Couldn't have said it better. Also, I tend to steal gigs from the imitations, even though they can 'shred' my face off. IME, there's always someone younger who can play circles around you if all your after is to become a technical wizard.

Why am I just now seeing this? I was THERE lol. Yeah they were laying it down! Andrew is pretty much one of my main influences and bass mentors. When I walked by and saw him there I was tripping!! I was looking at everyone else like, dont yall know who that is??? Crazy. But he jammed with quite a few other ppl, though I cant remember the names. Layed it down everytime. I have some footage as well, but my digital camera doesnt do the audio hardly any justice. He even let me play his BASS! Im now sold on MTD's lol. #1 Class act guy and a beast on the lows.

IMO, a musical idea can still be profound to you even if you don't understand the "theory" behind it or if you can't execute the idea.

No one is going to like everthing.

Matt's a great cat and I think everyone would agree that he's an awesome player and so are you. But no player is all things to all people and all situations.

I think it more of an expression of preferences and I don't thing there's any thing wrong with that and this is a discussion board with a myriad of opinions. I'm also sure you do comparisions yourself i.e. if two or more people show up to an audition an you are the MD you're going to compare them and pick the one that best suits your needs.
