Started a Smiths tribute band for a bit of fun, man its good playing all those basslines! Headmasters Ritual has become my favourite, never thought I'd be able to work it out, but its so cool!

I've just started learning "Hand In Glove" and "Barbarism Begins At Home". Both are turning out to be a serious workout for my left hand! I've never really played that melodically, mostly just playing a supportive style "root pounding" as I've heard it referred to. Learning Andy's basslines will really stretch my playing and make me a lot better.

As far as his sound goes, I'm just running my bass through a chorus pedal and that seems to approximate his tone to some degree. At first I thought he was playing a fretless but after watching the videos I could see that it wasn't. He might be playing flats though.

Yes, I am having a good time with all this!;-)

andy rourke, peter hook, and simon gallup were pretty much my biggest influences in high school. with a little adam clayton and mike watt for good measure.

and if you use a capo at the 4th, Bigmouth is LOADS easier. that's how we always played it anyway.

I "discovered" The Smiths late last year, and I absolutely love them. Andy Rourke has got the tastiest bass lines, a veritable treasure trove of bass! I enjoy playing along to their music on my computer with headphones on. I guess my favorites are "The Boy With A Thorn In His Side" and "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before". However, I am NOT a fan of their super-long song titles!
