Anime-ted Bass Players group I don't think this area has been explored yet. Who here is a bassist who enjoys playing tunes from japanese anime? Me personally, I love to play lines from Bubblegum Crisis (the original), Angel Sanctuary, Cowboy Bebop, and various others. Also included can be japanese pop/rock, or even american cartoons that have an anime flair. Anyone else do this too?? Peace, Greg |
bumping...I can't be the only one. Peace, Greg |
People have mentioned listening to the basslines in the anime. It's not a common topic that comes up. The biggest problem is figuring out the lines being played, which can be a bit difficult at times, especially to someone with an untrained ear. I've tried to do it myself, but have so far been unsuccessful. Which is sad because I have an ungodly anime collection. |
MY GOD! i love anime basslines! i didnt think id find a thread for it though. I like playing let me be with you from chobits. awesome. mind if i get a number? |
oo i got one for ya the ending theme song for Ghost in the Shell: stand alone complex it's called "lithium flower" and has a pretty sick bassline |
FLCL!!!! I can play a couple songs off of that. Oh, and the melody to Lilium from Elfen Lied And this one cool freaky musical line from Evangelion |
trying to learn songs from l'arc~en`ciel, their bassist Tetsu has some good basslines, they did the theme songs from: Full metal Alchemist, Samurai X, and Gundam 00...also try to listen on some songs by Judy and Mary they also have a song from Samurai X. |

I don't play "anime bass tunes" really..... but I do listen to Japanese Rock mainly, and play it almost exclusively Plastic Tree being my favourite band let's make a club :bassist: |
Count me in! I've figured out the bass parts from many tunes in anime shows such as: Ghost in the Shell (original movie) Cowboy Bebop (most of the music for the series was written by Yoko Kanno and performed by her and a group of japanese studio musicians called "The Seatbelts" Robotech |
oh, by the way, VideoGame music should be included into this topic!! [at least Japanese games........ like Rockman!!!!!!] |

as for bass licks, there's a cool bit of mood music in trigun consisting of a repeating riff on a growly, stringy upright bass with a flute playing along that i can't help but play whenever i happen to pick up an upright. |
I tend to wright music while watching anime more then actually playing along with the songs, but as I'm a huge anime fan I'll join for the hell of it. Here is my list of favorites of anime music list. FLCL [love The Pillows] GITS SAC 1 Lain Cowboy Bebop Hell Girl Last Exile [OP only] GITS SAC 2 [I hate the CT song though] Ergo Proxy Requiem from the darkness SoltyRei [OP only] Samurai Champloo Gurren-Lagann |

I'll throw in! Yoko Kanno is a flat out musical genius; a compositional/stylistic chameleon. And more of her songs than not have awesome bass lines. The Cowboy Bebop soundtrack would stand as a tremendous album(s) all on its own. I'd be jazzed to form a Yoko Kanno cover band. Yes indeedy. My wife and I have noticed that most of the anime shows we watch on Ye Olde Cartoon Network Adult Swim have great bass lines in the title music, often sharing the song as a nearly co-equal melody to the vocals. Great stuff. |
4StringTheorist, you have just been awarded #10. Peace, Greg |
