What kind of music are you guys playing? What are your favorite lines to play? Our church does everthing from hymns to Newsboyz to Lakewood stuff. My favorite line personally is on trading my sorrows, I just get to sit back and groove. It's great

Modern worship stuff....everything from "Above All" to "Come, Now is the Time to Worship"

Lots of Hillsong and Chris Tomlin with a spattering of other staple artists. The congregation always requests "One Way."

The funny thing is, no one in my band likes "Come, Now is the Time to Worship," so we never play it, but I don't think it's a bad song at all. They always complain about it being Enya-ish, but I think it can be re-arranged to suit our style more.

We do a lot of Steve Fee, Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Hillsong type stuff with our own versions of hymns mixed in. Normally we'll use the newer and more "exciting" stuff to open up the service, then bring it down with a "modern" sounding hymn before communion. We do have our monthly "Ignite" services where we play a lot of rock-out worship songs similar to 7:22 at Northpoint Church in Atlanta.

We know many of the common tunes by bands like Third Day and Todd Agnew, but we've recently begun stepping backwards and integrating the band into some of the traditional hymnal-based tunes. We're working on finding the middle ground now...

Same here, I came up with a really simple, but FUNKY slap line to the chorus of One Way. Something alone the lines of this (we play it in Bb).

g-------3------------------3---------
d----------1--1----------------------
a--1-1-----------1-2-3-1------------
e-------------------------------------

Then the part where the drums cut out, I go

g--------3----------3
d--------------------
a--1--1------1--1---
e--------------------

Three quarter notes and a quarter rest.

That sounds righteous man. We usually play it in its normal key (I think B major), so I'm sure I could just move it up a half step and try it out.

At my church we play a pretty wide variety of stuff. We have a big age range, so we are encouraged to play at least one or two hymns each morning, and some newer stuff as well.

We do Hillsong, Paul Beloche, Chris Tomlin. Middle of the road contemporary, nothin too radical. I also dig the bass line i the Daryl Evan stuff like "Trading my Sorrows"...

We play Fred hammond, Isreal & New Breed, Kirk Franklin, Hezakiah Walker, Junita Bynum & Martha Munizzi to name a few. We also do a few Hymns here and there. Great great stuff for bassists and drummers.

Sorry, I didn't put the timing in. It is 8th note 8th note 1/4 note 1/4 note 1/4 note. Then a new bar and 8th note 8th note 1/4 note 1/4 note 1/4 note. Or you can play the 8th 8th 1/4 part as a triplet if you are feeling that.

I rotate playing bass, electric lead/slide and keys for Christian City Church (C3) Manhattan in NYC. (Our CD, "Peace" is on iTunes & CD Baby.) Most of our material is written in house or by our sister church worship groups in Atlanta, Sydney, Dallas or elsewhere. The style is like Hillsong or Jeremy Camp (whom we've played with in NY) since C3 is also based in Sydney.

We've had a number of different style bassists rotating from jazz players, fusion, rock, and gospel/R&B. I would be in the rock/R&B camp, since my main influences are Jack Casady & Larry Graham.

Mostly Hillsong and Planet Shakers stuff...some of the old gospel classics too...

Planet Shakers is very formula-matic and while it usually has a great drive, it can become a bit tedious to play.

Hillsong and Hillsong Unites is also formula-matic, but their song structures leave a bit more latitude for fresh improv.

It's the old gospel classic stuff that I really love to play. We have a keyboardist who just eats that stuff for breakfast...she really gets into her element when we're playing it and it just seriously grooves...it's the only time I play ANY slap lines at all...

on the PS and HS stuff, it's mostly roots, thirds, and fifths, with the occasional chromatic run thrown in...on that stuff, I really concentrate on dynamics, rhythms and note durations to help the music move along.

Sometimes, I'll sub as drummer...I love doing that occasionally, as it help me keep things fresh, and exercise my "musicality" brain...
