I have a bunch of Roland's work going back to vinyl and he had Ken Wild on bass. All great stuff, but tonight I broke out the Further Dance CD.....awesome stuff! Plus it was recorded direct to 2-trk, excellent sound!

All I can say is that if you ever get a chance to see him, by all means DO IT !. I've had a chance to go see him a few times and the intensity and conviction he plays with will make you curl up in a ball, because his notes just explodes of the neck.

Live in Tokyo by Michel Petrucciani is a great AJ recording.

And Steve Gadd is on drums. Can't be bad.

I bought Simon's drum video for the very reason it had Anthony Jackson on it. I've done the same for Omar Hakim/ Victor Bailey and the old Steve Gadd one that has Will Lee on it. I'll take those cats anyway I can.

As Jim mentioned, there's a bootleg around of Steve Khan, AJ and Dennis Chambers 'Live in Koln' from a few years back. Some of my favourite AJ playing on it. Khan is a guitarist who knows how to leave space for a bassist.

I learned the power of the Internet very fast.
I first got online in '98(at work)...I went onto some Jazz BB blabbing about how great Live in Koln was & soon after received an e-mail from Steve Khan, ya know, wanting to know where I picked up this 3-disc set. Gulp.

I love Khan's guitar playing...he's able to leave a lotta room for the bassist because of his voicings(his "Chord Khancepts")...Khan eschews use the "E" or "A" for chords, as a result, the chords are slightly ambiguous & airy. The bassist's note choice carries a lotta weight.

On the otherhand, I usually get stuck with the boneheads that like playing everything in Root position.

i've only heard AJ on the Lee Ritenour specials aired on the ovation channel from time to time.

one word:

AMAZING.

he was playing his 6 string fodera, and also seemed to have a midi type thing which sounded like a pan-style flute thingy. very cool. also, he loved to use palm muting which sounded perfect. very cool. did i mention his playing was very cool?
