Speechless.

Perhaps this should be posted in the Recordings forum. Either way, I love how he has such a "classical" sense about what he plays. I actually prefer it to classical guitar, personally. I just wonder what kind of genius you have to be to come up with this stuff?

AJ is one of my favorites, along with JJ (Jimmy Johnson). Both very unique sounds and styles, but both are amazing.

Akiko Yano.

When I first saw this, I immediately thought of Hiromi Euhara, but this is WAY pre-Hiromi. Akiko has been around since the mid-70's.

Agree. He probably is. His approach is unique, though....he thinks of himself as a bass guitarist.....in the literal sense. He calls his instrument a contrabass guitar- not a 'six-string bass.'

This is a great video and I've watched it many times. Yet another example showing why Anthony is one of the greatest bassists to ever pick up the instrument. He's truly a maestro. His tone, phrasing, feel and technique are second-to-none.

This is my favorite setting for AJ. He shines in the trio format and I would love to see Akiko, Anthony and Cliff put an album out.

One of my favorite musicians.

My favorite active bassist. Met him once. He was nice enough but I now know not to bother him when he's in tuning mode.

I see Akiko shares Esperanza's hair stylist. But seriously - AJ is one of my favourite bassists ever. Absolute precision without sacrificing feel or musicality.
