Anthony Jackson with Hiromi Trio, Blue Note NYC

just came from the Blue Note, NYC, final set of the trio's run.
Anthony was completely ninja as always, blistering chops when called for, orchestral comping, louder than i've ever heard him in this club (maybe a dozen times over 10 years), a great rig, the Fodera sounds fantastic.
He's also brought back his flanger and his pick for specific ostinati, unison runs and comping passages, and the sound is amazing. A welcome reintroduction!

Hiromi.. i started out a while back thinking she's somewhat of a Michele Camilo protege' based on the few cuts i've heard, and there's a good amount of Camilo in her 2-handed latin stuff and some runs, BUT she's got her own thing entirely and she's just phenomenal, a SERIOUSly talented player with a near-limitless vocabularly.

Simon Philips was great, nailing everything, both subtle and powerful, with rave-up high-tech bombast chops that sealed the envelope in solo spots. the new CD came out last week, and they did most of it.

a nice kick-off to summer NYC- Anthony, somewhere in town, tearin' it up with world-class players!

Look for a copy of the 2 disk set; Duet, Chick Corea & 上原ひろみ (Hiromi) Live in Tokyo.

It sounds to me like one mind with 4 hands. I have to listen closely to guess, is it he or she? Hiromi Uehara is a remarkable musician! That's how she comes to play in such good company. 8-)

D.A.R.K, i'm not sure about the head (he had a small, walter woods-size unit), but this Meyer cab looked like what he used last night (with possibly a 15" upgrade):

Meyer Sound News : Anthony Jackson Achieves Bass-Line Quality with Meyer Sound CQ-1s

No doubt AJ can hear the difference. It is part of his gift. Sad to say, I have no such gift. 8-(
