Anthony Jackson on Paul Simon's "Slip Slidin' Away"

After doing a ton of research, I finally found out who played the beautiful bassline for the song above.

Since the first time I heard that song I was astounded by the intricate counter melody, and not only that but that Simon let his bass players mess around so much on his albums, particularly Graceland of course.

Right now I'm just trying to find more material by or with Anthony Jackson. Are there any other big people like Paul Simon he played for?

Nice to see more AJ's fans out here.

Check this thread out ... Anthony Jackson
Not sure what "big people" means for you but the thread contains a lot of good musical suggestions for those who appreciate AJ!

I'll try to find the song you mention and listen to it

Slip Slidin' Away is an absolutely beautiful piece of music. The bass playing is utterly superb. Amazing tone and such a fluid, thoughtful bassline. The very pinnacle of "making every note count". I knew it was AJ who did the bass playing before I heard it, so I knew it would be good but man, it's amazing.

That little fill right after when Paul says "a bad day's when I lie in bed and think of things that might have been" is just beyond words in it's simplistic beauty.

Try this:

The cd is called: The Suitcase (Live in Köln '94)
The artist: Steve Khan
The band: Steve Khan, guitar; Anthony Jackson, bass; Dennis Chambers, drums

Thanks to Jeremy Cohen for highlighting this.

Wow, and all these years I just assumed it was Tony Levin playing that part. Guess that's what happens when you ass-ume... Thanks for tipping me to yet another AJ gem.

Great song.

AJ is a master.

Check out a live Simon and Garfunkel CD. ( I forget name)
Pino does a nice job on "Slip Slidn' Away"
