dude has the stuff!
Really liked his trio playing with Michel Camilo and Horacio Hernandez, as seen, here, in a clip from the great "Calle 54" Latin jazz documentary/concert film

I feel there are many great bassists, but Anthony Jackson is simply on another level of understanding when it comes to the bass guitar. It is amazing how he gets such an acoustic sound out his bass during that solo!

Take The A Train

Here's a version of this old standard that smokes like a locomotive, w/ Petrucciani, Gadd and a horn section. It also has a solo by Anthony...

It's funny, I've never really cared if he ever soloed, he just kills in the context of whatever song he's playing. Much like Jamerson in that respect.

I agree that Jackson is one of the greats of our time on the bass guitar , but IMO his tone is far from what I would call acoustic.

To my ears, he echoes classical or flamenco guitars in his solo and ensemble playing, especially with Michel Camillo.

You are right on all counts , but it still does not sound like an acoustic, not even close IMO.

acoustic tone.

To my ears, his sound is more piano-like than double bass-like.

I hear the grand piano thing too, especially in his older recordings. That is an acoustic vibe too, of course.

Yep. A singularly unique style that just works for ANYTHING, and within about two notes i just know it's him.

+1, The architecture he laid down for the songs are always pieces of art in themselves.

I find that the stuff he does as part of the rhythm section is far more impressive than the soloing.
