And what an awsome talent.

He's been a major influence on my playing for ages, since well before I started playing a 6 string.

I was stood about 3m away from him, for two hours during a masterclass with him and Mike Stern, at the Institute for contemporary music performance (ICMP), in Kilburn London this afternoon.

He came across as being a really nice, down-to-earth, cool person, telling stories and passing on really useful advice.

Him and Mike Stern are currently playing with Dave Wekl at Ronnie Scotts in London.

They played a few tunes, and answered loads of questions.

His mastery of the 6 string is awesome, his sound was great, he played his Fodera through an Ashdown rig.

He also pulls THE BEST faces....

Shows how deep he feels it when he plays, like his hero Jamerson said, "You gotta play what ya feel"

Big Fan,

Awesome

I saw it on Saturday night - all four guys were superb, but man, Anthony was something else. What was really cool was they sat and watched the house band play and got into them. Anthony has a real presence, even when not playing. I have no idea what tunes they played (each one was like 20 minutes long in any case) as I was not much of a Mike Stern fan but I am now - boy can he play!! The most impressive thing was the choices each player made, Weckl and Anthony were telepathic and have obviously been listening to a lot of new music as you could hear hip-hop and synth-bass imitations going on. And that sound! The bottom B was so tight and although not excessively loud, the bass both shook the room and was very clear. The chordal accompaniments were really cool using a lot of cluster chords with minor and major seconds, and he cut loose with a nice solo too. Shame his bass is like $15000! The guy is a total genius. One of the best experiences of my life. Do yourself a favour - if AJ is playing at your local bar or club, drop everything and get down there

The only thing I saw as a bit of a downer was that they gave him a 4x10 Ashdown cab to play through...hardly high end, given what the bass could have sounded like. No idea what the room sound was like, as i was real close to the stage. Maybe it was more refined being fed via DI.
A great gig though.
Very special!!!
I am extremely happy to have had the chance to see it.
When I last saw him play, he was using his the stage acompany gear.
That was a good 14 years ago though with Metro
