I'd never met a female Bassist before. |

She's a great bassist too, plays more on the "groove" side of things but can handle a melody when she wants to! She's quite Warwick mad, and is about to buy a Thumb BO 4 string, and like me, Loves Trace Elliot amps! |

I only know two females bassists.
One I went to high school with. I thought we were friendly back then but when I saw her at our 20th class reunion a few years ago she acted like she didn't know me. I never got to find out if she still plays but after that I didn't really care at that point, either.
The other is my friend's 16 year old daughter. She's been messing around with it for a year or two now but apparently is just getting more serious about it now. The last time he and I got to gether for a practice session he said she would have loved to tried out my new head and cabinets since all she has is a little practice amp. I was fine letting her try it so I asked her if she wanted to plug in while we took a break, or if she wanted to try playing bass with us I'd be happy to play drums or guitar. She got real shy and more or less passed on the offers, though she finally did plug in for a few minutes when I told her it was the last chance before we tear down. I even showed her "Sunshine of your Love", which is one of the songs we were playing that day. I thought she sounded fine, but even though my skills shouldn't intimidate anybody I can still understand a teenage girl being nervous around her dad's friends.

She's the total package! I don't think I could have married another player though. I'd always be afraid she might be better than me. Gotta love male insecurity!!! |

| | | | Are there really that few female bassists around???
I know.... 4! Two that i turned to playing bass from other instruments, and another 2 that have met along the way!!!
The more female bassists the better i reckon! i dont think bass should be seen as a "Manly" instrument, but i think comparitive to piano and even guitar, sadly it does,
Thats why it is good to see girl bass players! |

A nice little aside...
I took my daughter to McD's yesterday, 'cause she begged and it was too hot to argue. She got a Happy Meal. In it was a Polly Pocket doll. This Polly is a musician. She came with all these little stickers to use on her little display stand. Her instrument?
The bass!
My girl exclaimed, "MOMMY!!! LOOK!!! She's got a bass!!!"
Me: "Honey, are you sure? How many strings?"
Her: "Four! Polly's a bassist, just like you, Mom!"
