Welll....this may come as a TOTAL surprise...but I don't play bass to be attractive...I don't give a crap what I look like when playing. I dress up as much as a gig dictates and after that, take me or leave me, you get what you get.

And I am equally unattractive on upright and on electric! Cool huh. Luckily, I can play the balls off most people who make ignorant statements about musicianship and gender.

It may just be me, but the 3 girl bassists I know, whenever they play, they always seem kinda lost when they play. I try to get my friends into music, but for some reason drums and guitar always come up first. Oh well, makes me look better compared to the 6 other bass players I know personally...

Man, maybe I should delete those posts. You may have read the last one before I edited it. I wasn't trying to make some blanket statement about female bass players. It's a proven fact that there are many female bass players that smoke a lot of thier male collegues. I guess I got too into talking about the looks thing. I might be offended if somebody said or somehow implied they only liked or took seriously only male bass players that were great looking. I'm no Don Johnson myself. If you thought anything I said was ignorant, I'd be interested in becoming more informed by hearing what you think.

Aside from this which is getting too ridiculous to talk about any more, I read your profile and think it's very cool that you've worked with Reid. That guy is awesome.

My girlfriend started trying to learn a few years ago, but gave up (mind you, this was a long-distance relationship--no first-person lessons)
My 13y.o. sister wants to take up the bass...

I'm all for women playing bass...I think it's awesome that girls and women are empowered to take up something male-dominated for so (too?) long...

But I am of the opinion, also, that if I had to make a choice between a male and a female, i would have to pick the better of the two, not automatically the female. (I do not believe to be true the virtue of modern "equal opportunity"...minorities get dibs type thing)

I hope I was clear; I certainly hope I didn't give the wrong impression...Please ask me to clarify if it's not clear :S

love you ladies

Her name is Dawn and she plays in a local variety rock band in Burlington, WI! She is a sexy redhead with attitude and she can sing even better than she plays.
