They come with complete transcribed basslines and a cd so you can check your reading/feel. He's a teacher at Berklee. I have Vol 1 and it's enough to keep me busy for quite a while.
As for players, I'd add to the list....

Oteil Burbridge on just about anything 'cause damn he's funky!
Jaco (of course) Come On, Come Over comes to mind
I'll 2nd or 3rd Jamiriquai... tight rhythm section
George Porter Jr WITH Stanton Moore... great bass + great drums= badass

And any George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic/P-Funk Allstars music. Bootsy Collins is in there too. I've seen all of them live too
