+1 Yep there you go. A word of warning though Rocco Prestia = RSI (at least when you're starting out)

nick daniels IMO is the funkier of the two.

but regardless- dumpstaphunk is the funkiest band, from the funkiest city. youd be crazy not to see them if they come near your town. the nastiest funk, hands down.

Funk would not even exist without James Jamerson.

+1... CFS is an incredible band !

I would also mention the great Leon Sylvers III, Mark Adams (Slave) and Orlando Phillips (Starpoint).

I'd recommend Anthony Vitti's books. He's got a couple on Funk basslines. They come with complete transcribed basslines and a cd so you can check your reading/feel. He's a teacher at Berklee. I have Vol 1 and it's enough to keep me busy for quite a while.

As for players, I'd add to the list....
Galactic
Lettuce
New Mastersounds
Greyboy Allstars
Oteil Burbridge on just about anything 'cause damn he's funky!
Jaco (of course) Come On, Come Over comes to mind
I'll 2nd or 3rd Jamiriquai... tight rhythm section
George Porter Jr WITH Stanton Moore... great bass + great drums= badass

those are some of my favs

It's Too Funky In Here

I have to vote first for the Godfather of Soul - James Brown and his band. I saw him live once in the early 1980s at the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans.

And any George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic/P-Funk Allstars music. Bootsy Collins is in there too. I've seen all of them live too
