Any GOOD metal bassists that use a PICK?

Are there even any good bassists using picks? It seems all the "good" ones are using fingers (burton, harris, digiorgio, webster etc).

I think all the good metal bass players decided to use fingers cause it is the "right" way to play. I started with my fingers... and I can play much faster with my fingers than a pick. I wish there were more good metal bassplayers who used pickage.

yes there are good metal bassists that use a pick but I guess it depends on what you call "metal." Why do you want to know?

Rex Brown was able to match Dimebag note-for-note on some of the trickiest riffs imaginable, so he gets my vote.

Justin Chancellor comes to mind.

Metalguy,
There is no "right way" when it comes to general pick or fingers technique.

He said "right way", not right way. He didnt mean that it is the right way. But whats considered the right way.. atleast i think so.

Rex Brown, Jason Newsted, and Justin Chancellor just to name a few. Also (not metal) Mike Gordon of Phish, John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney . . . I could go on forever. All these guys know how to play with their fingers too, and do both. Some use fingers more than pick (John Paul Jones) and some prefer the pick just for their sound and style (Rex Brown). All these guys are incredible though and all use picks at least some of the time.

whether you use a pick or not has got **** all to do with how good you are!!!! i have been playing metal since i picked up the bass guitar (not saying that im any good though!!) and i have gone from fingers to pick a few times. I stayed with the pick after a few years as it helps get a more percussive sound from my bass and it makes my bass cut through the huge wall of guitar sound my band has.its all about which one works best for your sound within the band your playing in. In my opinion it has nothing to do with "the best players use fingers". just remember what bands they are in? Big ****ing huge famous ones

Dave Ellefson, Justin Chancellor, Rex Brown, a million different death metal bassists, etc.

Don't corner yourself into pick or fingers. I use both myself--depending on what I feel is right for the song.

the guys from god forbid, killswitch engage, trivium, 3 inches of blood,... not great but metal non the less. I myself play with a pick, seem to be the only one who plays faster with than without.

The original pick playing metal bassist IMHO is Joey Demaio of Manowar. Sting of the Bumblebee off of Kings of Metal features him. You can check out a soundclip here: http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/stor...125881,00.html

Also, there's a version of William Tell Overture, entitled William's Tale, off of Battle Hymns: http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/stor...125879,00.html

Tool isn't metal. Hard Rock/Art Rock/Experimental are better labels for them.
