I SWEAR I hear Stefan Fimmers of Necrophagist slapping on his intro to "Only Ash Remains."

Might just be me.

At first I didn't like this song, but every time I hear I like it even more... What a bassline! Classic Warwick tone too.

He didn't use a Warwick on that album... and Warwick tone is TOTALLY different than "Speak Free" bass tone.

God I can't believe no one mentioned Infectious Grooves, with Robert Trojillo! Check them out if you can find some of their material. They were around back in the 90's and were funky as hell.

Someone did mention Infectious Grooves. I don't have an album by them I've heard it a few times and IIRC Guano Apes bassist does some slap lines here and there.

Nope. I can play that, no slapping involved at all.

Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne in the first two albums on Epic. He does do some slapping on Lost and Found, but only on one song. Also, the bassist from Bionic Jive did quite a bit of slapping, as did Jean Baudin in Element of Surprise (although most of the bass is tapping).
