I've just discovered how awesome the Dolls were/are and I've been on a huge Dolls kick, I think there music's brilliant as is Kane's playing. Anyone else like him?

Pictures and information on gear would be appreciated.

New York Doll is great movie if you're a Dolls fan.

I like the Dolls, though there isn't anything impressive about thier playing. Pretty much just a garage band glammed up, but I like garage bands.

i think the most impressive thing about arthur kane is that he couldn't breathe while he played, so he would take a deep breath, play till his air ran out, then stop and take another deep breath. this comes from david johansen, but i forget where i saw it.

anyway, loved the dolls, never was too impressed skillwise by anyone but david johansen.

I've covered "sh**house blues" a number of times, very fun song to play. also fun to substitute the band members' names in for the girls' names in the song. can't play that in any "family establishments" though

The Dolls are one of my all-time faves, but my love is not really based on their instrumental skillz.

Although Jerry Nolan was a very solid drummer and Johnny Thunders was an innovator. Not necessarily as a matter of technical skill, but he created a distinctive and influential style of guitar playing (even if he was "standing on the shoulders of giants" himself).

One of my all-time best music-related moments was when Johnny got up to jam with my old band at CBGB in NY. This was back in 1988 or 89 -- Johnny was very elegantly wasted, but still alive!

Arthur Kane was cool, but not all that distinctive purely as a player. Although I copped many things from him when I was learning to play. Of course, he had just copped them from someone else!

Anyway, definitely check out New York Doll, as others have mentioned. Also, if you are just getting into the Dolls, also check out Johnny's post-Dolls band, The Heartbreakers.

I really like his run in "Personality Crisis"", though that was pretty cool.
