Anybody got any info on Bernard Reed????

Sign in to disble this ad
Searched the net and there's not a whole lot of info available on Bernard Reed. What Gives?

This guy is a phenominal player but it seems he's another "obscure" cat that doesn't get much recognition?

Last I see on him he worked with Otis Clay.

I'd like to see a discography, some personal info, etc.

Chicago cats, What's he been up to? Seen him around?

God Bless, Ray

A few years ago Bernard was house bassist at a monthly blues jam. Had the privilege of witnessing his sly chops and righteous tone, and hearing stories from his career. I even subbed for him one night when his rehearsal ran late on the other side of town. It was humbling when he entered the club mid-set, accompanied by a student he was mentoring - but Bernard always had kind encouraging words for bass players.

Underappreciated is right.

You can find more info on the Brunswick label website.

Last I spoke with Bernard, he was playing shows at the Black Ensemble Theatre in Chicago. Not sure if he's touring much with Otis Clay or Percy Sledge.

Funny, that allmusic article linked above doesn't mention the great recordings he made with Tyrone Davis, like Can I Change my Mind and Turn Back the hands Of Time.

I really like his tone and most of all his timing. Great player.

Post BERNARD REED HAS BEEN FOUND!

MY DAD BERNARD REED IS "STILL" AROUND. HE HAS BEEN DOING A LOT OF WORK WITH SYL JOHNSON AND SOME UP AND COMING "NEW" ARTIST. HE STILL IS VERY ACTIVE ON THE MUSIC SCENE. JUST NOT NOTICED BY PEOPLE WHO DONT APPRECIATE OR UNDERSTAND HIS TALENT! IF ANYONE WANTS TO CONTACT MY DAD YOU CAN DO SO BY EMAILING HIM AT ljr1628@yahoo.com AND HE WILL GLADLY RESPOND.

I'd love to hear him with Syl Johnson, a singer I've followed since his stuff on Hi records a while back.

Pity Chicago is not closer, for many reasons!

This is a picture someone sent me when I asked about him on the FDP a few years ago.
