Is anyone familiar with Chris Sorenson?

Sign in to disble this ad
he plays bass for a band called Saosin.

i was watching their DVD that came along with their new album last night. in my opinion his tone on the live rehearsals that they do on there is absolutely sick.

is anyone here familiar with him/ what he's currently using or how to get close to that sound?
its the sound i've been chasing for a year now and being a guitar player originally i just cant seem to pin point it because my bass tone knowledge is still limited.

i meant to talk to him about it the other night when they were in town but didn't want to bug him about it while fans were around.

any help would be great thanks...

well, I've seen em live a couple of times. I'm actually a big fan of them. Chris is a nice dude, They're all very informative of their gear. I can actually help you in knowing what he uses to play with to find out, their message board is very useful.

Here is a direct quote from the board

"What is Chris's live setup?
Chris uses Fender Jazz and Precision basses into a Sunn 1200S through two Fender 8x10 cabs. He has previously been seen using Schecter Model Ts. (SPECULATION) He might be using a Fender Bassman 1200 Pro as his amp head now, since Sunn has been bought out by Fender and the product line discontinued.

His pedalboard consists of an Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer, an MXR Phase 90, a Boss DD-6 Delay, a Boss RV-5 Reverb, a Boss TU-1 Chromatic Tuner, and an Ernie Ball Passive Volume Jr."

Chris is currently using the fender bassman 1200 as well as the cab that goes along with it though, I saw them live in summer and he told me that's what he is using now.

Hope that helps!

EDIT: if you want his live sound, get a P bass. He uses that ALL the time live

Just for the Record.... the 1200S came out AFTER Fender bought Sunn... and Fender Bought Sunn in.... 1984.

The Sunn 1200S and Fender Bassman 1200 Pro Are the Same product, made in the same place, and the only difference being the Name on the front, a few small stylistic changes, and small component sourcing.

Besides that, same guts, different name slapped on it.

thanks man, i have read that before i'm just not sure how current that is because his current tone seems to be a lot different than in the past. I've followed them since 2004, i've played with them twice over the years. I just hate being the guy thats like so dude what are you using, i want to copy your tone. I dig the tone that my SVT Classic and 6x10 are giving me, i just feel like im ready for something different maybe.
I'm currently using Jazz and P-basses.
is anyone familiar with the amp that he is using? i believe it's solidstate, i;ve only ever used tube amps. should i consider switching to this amp? or would that be a bad idea?
