Steve DiGiorgio (Death/Sadus) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFofDLdCI1g

Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ9W_HM-Rmg

Eric Langlois (Cryptopsy) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgW5qHjzwmk

Martin Mendez (Opeth) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY5LRReFYus

... there's probably loads more, but those are the guys who immediately sprang to mind.

Other than the guy from Cryptopsy (Haven't heard them) I have to wholeheartedly agree with everyone Rusty mentioned. Martin Mendez is the BEST when it comes to a Death Metal player who is extremely flexible in how he plays, Webster is the best straight ahead METAL player (IMO) and DiGiorgio is just an amazing player, and really unique.

I suppose, if we're talking about death metal, we can't forget the biggest death metal band in the world... DETHKLOK!

Here's Bryan Beller, from their real-life incarnation showing us his stuff...

Martin Mendez.
Opeth is mostly known for the amazing song writing and Big, intricate guitar riffs, but check out the bass next time you listen. Amazing stuff. I think he's one of the most underestimated bassist, not just in metal, but in rock in general. Great tone, great technique.

I think Alex Webster is an extremely underrated bassist. He didn't limit himself to just death metal, he learned other styles too. he can tap, slap, play finger style and play with a pick effectively. IMO thats what makes him stand out from the rest.

Try Sean Malone from Cynic, though they're far from a typical death metal band. Great fretless player, as is Steve DiGiorgio.

I came in here and was just about the name the same bassists Rusty Chainsaw named.

Fretless jazz bass in Death Metal, hell yeah.

Another bassist that not many know is Tony Choy of the band Atheist. Absolutely amazing.

As well as Roger Paterson from Atheist. A Monster of a player! His lines on Piece of Time are great!
