Art Rock Bassists!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been real into the whole 70s art rock scene, and am suprised (and annoyed!!!) that none of the bass players get any love here or anywhere else!! Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads is an amazing bassist! Her lines are simple, groovy, and add a whole new aspect to every song. The heavy thump of Tim Wright and Tony Maimone Pere Ubu, and the thick thud of Trevoe Bolder are huge inspiration and influence on my own playing.

Who else has knows what I'm talking about? These guys really know how to get the job done, and add so much power and character to their band!

Haven't a clue, hopefully doing well and still playing bass!

Another good mention is Fred Smith of Television!! He had some really badass lines one the Marquee Moon album!

Tony Maimone is one of my favorite bassists. Period.

Well, this thread sure died quick. Guess there ain't much appreciation around here for that movement of bassists. Too bad.

i'm not sure how you can lump trevor bolder in with tina weymouth as a genre, but i love both of them. televison's bassist too. art-rock is what people used to call prog,so maybe others are a bit confused about your post, too. you could throw in bill macormick, who played with phil manzanera and eno,as a bassist i really liked in an "arty" band scenario. have a listen to TMK from 801 Live, excellent stuff.

801 Live is excellent. a great collection of diverse players, with Eno's awesome tunes and keyboards, and Bill Macormik's crisp P bass work. Fred Smith's stuff with Television is tremendous. Also, all the bass work in Devo is spectacular, both sound and line-wise.
