What cabinets give off a better sound? What's the difference between them?

Welcome.

First, I suggest going to the 'Amps' subforum, and using the search function. You will find countless threads on both these brands. That said "good" and "better sound" are entirely subjective. You need to be specific about what tone you like, what music you play, etc. Also, why these two brands, specifically? And so on. The more info you provide, the better the response you will get.

Second, I would PM a mod and ask them to move this thread to 'Amps'.

Third, you are about to learn a whole lot about gear. Be prepared for lots of reading.

Best of luck.

The few Ashdowns I've played I didn't like - Nor did I like the Ampegs.

Much better cabs for the money (in my opinion): SWR (particularly used). I really like (and own) Epifani and Aguilar, but that's a bit more spendy than ashdown/ampeg.

Ashdown are voiced with a mid scoop. The ABMs are compact and well built and if you go for the Superflys, light and also well built. I used them for about 7 years and if they'd have done a 2x12 4ohm I might still be using them. Good, better, best? That's down to personal preferences.
