Thumbs up The Atheist Bass Player Club

Sign in to disble this ad
I did a search on the subject and discovered that there are many atheists here in Talkbass. So why not create an atheist club?

Then here we are.

The "Atheist Bass Player" Club

Edit: This club is exclusively dedicated to discusss the life as atheist bass player. If you are not an atheist, agnostic, secular humanist or non religious bass player, you are welcome to follow our thread, but please, come in peace.

This thread was closed twice due to religious / atheist trolling. I really don't want it to be closed again. I am working hard to keep it opened. Until now I've been trying to convince trollers that they don't need to come here only to create animosity. Unfortunately, It's not working.

FROM NOW I WILL NOT TOLERATE TROLLING. TROLLERS WILL BE REPORTED. BEING ATHEISTS, CHRISTIANS OR FROM ANY OTHER BELIEF SYSTEM

Below you can find Mr. John Turner's advice on the issue.

this thread is -not- about discussing religion. this thread is -not- about discussing atheism. this thread is about -bass playing-.

if someone participates in this thread and is incappable of following the rules, stated clearly -again- above :

DO NOT : quote them, engage them, converse with them, or in any way acknowledge them.

DO : report them, ignore them.

if someone comes to troll your thread, you can engage them, and accomplish their work for them, or
YOU CAN REPORT THEM AND IGNORE THEM.

and let us take care of it.

Now back to the show

Is Secular Humanist close enough?

To label oneself an atheist means that you are using something that you don't believe in to define yourself.

I don't think of myself in such terms but when pressed, I identify as Agnostic.

My preference is to gently state "I am not a Believer" and leave it at that. No sense getting confrontational about it

In-your-face atheists are just as annoying as in-your-face religious types

i apply.. but do we really need a club?

count me out. part of being an atheist means i dont identify with religion. no sense in forming a group around it. reminds me of the atheist church in metalocalypse.

Hey, I'm not an atheist (actually, I'm Catholic) but can I join? This stupid "Christian Praise and Worship Bassists Club" business pisses me off to no end. I'm here on this forum to talk about the instrument -- who cares whether the gig is in a church or not.

Anyway, I realize I don't technically qualify, but I am sympathetic.

I'll take a number. Doesn't this belong someplace else, like 'off topic'?
Sadly I predict this thread will soon be shut down.

not that i think theres anything wrong with it personally.. i just think its inherent that religious people bond over the fact that they are religious regardless if they like each other or not.

Secular Humanism is fine, Bright too. But I think atheist is a good definition when i'm questioned about my beliefs. Take the " What cigarrette do you prefer?" "Sorry, I am a lung environmentalist." No thanks

hehehe... I agree with you. I don't need to feel safe. The club is only to count us, the same as the "Impressive 1 string bassists club" or the "Whale fat eater bassist club"

I agree with you. I think the most important thing here is to respect other people beliefs (or the lack of )

But
atheist = non believer = lack of belief. It is the same thing! Why using euphemisms if there is a ready-to-use word?
