In this song, the tone makes the bass.

That's all you need to fit into that genre! |

I used to HATE "Good Hearted Woman"- six notes (if you don't count the key change), and no rhythmic variation at all. Then I decided I could either hate that four minutes of every gig, or embrace it. So I started using it as my focus song. Exactly how long to hold each note, exactly when to attack each one, zooming in on how THIS drummer is hitting the kick and high-hats, how THIS guitarist is chucking the up-beats, etc. It got to be my favorite song on stage just because I could learn so much about working with other musicians playing it. Thanks for reminding me!!
And another submission- Emmylou Harris doing "Luxury Liner" with Emory Gordy on bass- especially check out the stuff after Albert Lee's first solo and what's happening around 3:44-4:05. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn77Z...eature=related

Here's another one of my old country favorites. Honky Tonk Heroes, by Waylon (written by Billy Joe Shaver). If anybody is NOT familiar with it, it starts out slow. But stay with it. Awesome song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2QbDlvgHw8

Like you said hitting the notes and holding them just long enough makes it fun to play. I always loved that bass and drums in that song as a kid.
