I recently fell in love with some old Jeff Lorber stuff, like "Soft Space", "Water Sign" and "Wizard Island"...great funk/fusion music!!
On those album play some amzaing musicians: Dennis Bradford on drums, Danny Wilson (on the latter 2) and Lester MCFarland (on the first one) on bass...I don't know anything else about those guys, any information? Other works they've done?
the tone on "watersign" is great!!

NickBass,
Yes, those early Lorber album's were very cool! My favorite's are "Water Sign" and "Wizard Island". Danny Wilson's Music Man Stingray tone on those album's were the stuff, along with the solid drumming and Kenny G's sax work. Seen them in Chicago in a small theatre in 79', and they killed!

Agree...those early Lorber Fusion albums with Wilson & Bradford were hard hitting Funk/Fusion.
Not long after, I pretty much avoided anything with Lorber's production, playing, etc.

Well, his music sure became more easy listening, but I liked some of his recent stuff like "He Had A Hat" or "Philly Style", they're good albums in my opinion...damn', I liked even "In The Heat Of The Night" who's full of cheesy '80 synths!! (but has Mr Nathan East on bass...)...but you're right, those early albums stand untouched!
Bobbo 77, you sure saw an amazing concert!!
So Wilson was playing a Musicman? Listening to "Watersign" I wasn't sure if it was a MM or a Jazzbass with a lot of bridge pickup...

Nice! i love this more complex funky music

Sounds a lot like a Brazilian band from the 70's / early 80's, Banda Black Rio.

Banda Black Rio! EXCELLENT STUFF!!!! Take yourself back to 1976, and imagine what your life would now be like if you'd had this stuff on the 8-track instead of mainstream Disco!!! Easily deserving of their own thread!

Órale NickBass,
When I seen them, Danny Wison had a Sunburst/Maple necked Stingray...THAT'S the reason (along with Louis Johnson), that I had to get one!
