I had to learn this break once for a band and it wasnt until LONG AFTER that band that I read the article....I think it is actually true!! | It is true. Explanation is featured in "Bass Player Presents the Fretless Bass." Kumalo improvised the break, then engineer Roy Halle flipped over the tape and spliced the lick to itself, backwards.
