A Band Called Prophet - Anyone remember, and WEHT?

I'm sure there have been many bands with that name but the group I had in mind was around late 80s, early 90s, very much in the vein of Kansas and Asia. Their bassist was very good and always up high in the mix with a Geddy/Dave Hope/John Wetton-ish tone.

I had a couple of their albums but kind of lost touch with them and wondered where they ever wound up. Lots of talent but I'm wondering if they were a victim of grunge like a lot of those late-era prog bands were.

Hey jaywa,

I don't recall having heard of Prophet, but I googled the name and came up with a youtube video and a Wikipedia article. I'm sure it's the band you're talking about.

The Wiki article states that the band started out doing covers of Queen, Styx and Boston. They were active from 85-91, had several member changes and eventually disbanded and went into other projects.

Someone on the youtube comments board also stated that one of Prophet's members had died.

Anyway, do a google search and you should have some of your questions answered. BTW, the song I heard did sound kind of like Kansas.

They were from New Jersey. They were a great band. I saw them a lot back in the early '80's, and we all played a lot of the same rooms. The bassist was Scott Metaxis. They were a cover band doing the whole prog thing before they went original and got their deal. They were probably the first circuit band in NJ to cover YYZ when it came out.

He's still around - he does a cover gig called Tres Hombres with a drummer who is a good friend of mine, who I have been in tons of projects with over the years.

Cool guys, thanks for the updates. I'll try and dig up that clip on YouTube.

Glad to hear their bassist is still well and playing.

Yeah that's the band. They also had a cool power ballad called "Everything You Are"... which I always hoped would be played at my wedding but wound up not making the cut.
