I don't mean without A bassist. That's most bands.
Some great bands have survived after losing their original bassist-Stones, Kinks, Ramones, Metallica, etc.
Other bands are unimaginable without their bassist. I will list a few examples that come to my mind
The Who (the hell do they think they are calling themselves the Who sans Entwistle and Moon?).
Led Zep (Page/Plant...hahahaha).
Yes ("NO" without Chris Squire)
Which other bands would be irreparably damaged without their bassist?
Edit: I mean just for their playing, not for their singing or songwriting.

Edit: What about Beatles without McCartney? |

I don't know who could step in for Nathan East and not change the feel of the group. He and Bob James define the group.
Peace,
James

My measly two cents.... | Um... Weather Report was a damn killer band even before Jaco. They had Vic B. and Alfonso . Still, without any of those, they would be a little lamer..
Bass extremes would suck (even more) with no bassist(s)

The songs are cool, but there's no dynamic between guitar and bass like the Geezer-era stuff.
W.A.S.P. too, I guess (if anyone cared). |

If so, how is he to be confoozed with DiMeola?
If anything, I could see one getting somewhat confused between Rit & Carlton. Quote: |

I would think someone like Gerald Veasley could step right into that gig.

Now, I guess I have to play: The Dead, Phil Lesh Hot Tuna, Jack Casady
I don't think the Stones aged gracefully at all after Wyman left, personally. |

| | | | ...maybe The Stones shoulda just used Ron Wood on bass?
