Which bands would suck without their bassist?

I don't mean without A bassist. That's most bands.

Some great bands have survived after losing their original bassist-Stones, Kinks, Ramones, Metallica, etc.

Other bands are unimaginable without their bassist. I will list a few examples that come to my mind

The Who (the hell do they think they are calling themselves the Who sans Entwistle and Moon?).

Led Zep (Page/Plant...hahahaha).

Yes ("NO" without Chris Squire)

Which other bands would be irreparably damaged without their bassist?

Edit: I mean just for their playing, not for their singing or songwriting.

An obvious choice would be bands in which the bassist is the visible leader. Rush and Primus come to mind. I can't imagine Bela Fleck And The Flecktones without Victor Wooten.

Edit: What about Beatles without McCartney?

More examples: Iron Maiden minus Steve Harris, Kiss without Gene Simmons(Well, not because of his playing, but he's evidently one of the owners of the band, isn't he?)

Fourplay survived the switch from (darn, I forgot his name, but it's the guy I always used to confuse with Al DiMeola!) to Larry Carlton on guitar. I don't know who could step in for Nathan East and not change the feel of the group. He and Bob James define the group.

Peace,

James

Um... Weather Report was a damn killer band even before Jaco. They had Vic B. and Alfonso . Still, without any of those, they would be a little lamer..

Bass extremes would suck (even more) with no bassist(s)

I never completely liked the Sabbath stuff without Geezer.
The songs are cool, but there's no dynamic between guitar and bass like the Geezer-era stuff.

W.A.S.P. too, I guess (if anyone cared).

Lee Ritenour?
If so, how is he to be confoozed with DiMeola?
If anything, I could see one getting somewhat confused between Rit & Carlton.

I only have their 1st couple albums. That said-
I would think someone like Gerald Veasley could step right into that gig.

I have a lot of friends who prefer pre-Jaco Weather Report greatly. I'm in that camp myself, although I love the Jaco era stuff too.

Now, I guess I have to play:

The Dead, Phil Lesh
Hot Tuna, Jack Casady

I don't think the Stones aged gracefully at all after Wyman left, personally.

I dunno, Daryl Jones sure sounded good with Miles when I saw him, but I just can't get into the Stones as a band post-Wyman. Woodie makes sense contextually though, I think. Then what, bring back Mick Taylor?
