Bass heavy groups/artists

Sign in to disble this ad
How many groups/artists can you name who are consistently "bass heavy" in their music? By that I mean groups where the bass plays a major leading role.

Ones where even a non-bassist/non-musician can listen and be able to really hear the bass even if they aren't sure what it is that is making that sound...

To contrast, someone mentioned Dream Theater as a group where you really can't hear Myung outside his solos.

Can be any genre or generation.

I'll start with two easy no brainers:

Rush
Red Hot Chili Peppers

Obscura, pretty much the only death metal band where the bass is actually mixed in front of the guitars.

+1 Spiral Architect have a similar Technical style with Power metal instead of Death Metal. Again the bass is very forward.

Om and DFA1979 is kinda cheating there, buddy. Completely awesome bands though.

If duo's (just drums and bass guitar) are allowed though, I'd add Lightningbolt and Clatter.

You should check out Revocation. Their bassist isn't quite Jeroen Paul-Thesseling, but he's pretty damn good and very forward in the mix. Also, any band Steve DiGiorgio has ever been in.

ABSOLUTELY!!! Anyone is allowed as long as the bass is way out in front.
