How many groups/artists can you name who are consistently "bass heavy" in their music? By that I mean groups where the bass plays a major leading role.
Ones where even a non-bassist/non-musician can listen and be able to really hear the bass even if they aren't sure what it is that is making that sound...
To contrast, someone mentioned Dream Theater as a group where you really can't hear Myung outside his solos.
Can be any genre or generation.
I'll start with two easy no brainers:

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Dianogah | Om and DFA1979 is kinda cheating there, buddy. Completely awesome bands though.
If duo's (just drums and bass guitar) are allowed though, I'd add Lightningbolt and Clatter.

Their bassist isn't quite Jeroen Paul-Thesseling, but he's pretty damn good and very forward in the mix. Also, any band Steve DiGiorgio has ever been in. |
