As for me, my biggest inspiration is Timmy C. or Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave. Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers is also quite good.

John Patitucci
Christian McBride
Trip Wamsley
John Coltrane
Charlie Parker
Bill Evans
Oscar Peterson
Stan Getz
Pat Martino
Capercaillie
Yanni
Clannad
Seal
FRANCESCA GAGNON ( www.francescagagnon.com)
Even though most of those aren't bass players, they have all influenced my playing as a bassist. And the bassists that play with all of them are KILLIN.

If you want some good old school inspiration, grab Corinne Bailey Rae's self-titled debut. Good, solid grooves all the way through. I really can't say enough about this one!!!
And, finally, I can always fall back on some old Motown or Led Zep for some good inspiration.
Hope that helped. - DW

If you want to see how a great player improvs check out the song Moondance by Van Morrison.
If you want tight complex funk check out Love Foolosophy by Jamiroquai.
If you want growly groove get Are You In by Incubus.
If you want some great chill playing listen to Tin Man by America.
...they all inspire me every time I hear em

| | | | play everything you hear if you are watching tv cop the bass licks for each commercial or for any musical part
but my personal guys
john enwistle of the who
while he is acknowledged as an influence on the scene i think he is underrated for his contribution to bass guitar in every category
before him i do not believe there is any recorded evidence of any bassists using a distinctive treble top end to his live or recorded signal imho he was the guy that introduced round wounds and that swing bass sound
some guys believe he is too busy and not a real bass player but i can tell you that each and every time i saw him perform it was a bass clinic
a few years back i saw him at slims in sfo there were about 25 people in the club what a great show and a bass clinic
rocco prestia of the tower of power
for me rocco was a local guy and i watched him from his start
i played in bands that opened for top
really a phenom that has had a wide influence over alot of guys
but that is just my opinion | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
