Bass player for Albert Collins (and other blues bassists)

I was listening to some Albert Collins the other day and I never realized how creative the bass players for blues bands are. They are confined to this little I/IV/V "box", yet they come up with some amazing rhythm patterns and creative lines.

Anybody else appreciate a great blues bassist?

You forgot Willie Weeks and Tommy Shannon!

One thing that is very cool is the way some of these guys use substitutions in the turnaround. Instead of the typical V-IV-I-V, Larry Taylor (like Willie Dixon before him) often uses a II-V walkup and a I-VI-II-V-I turnaround and plays it often; it works over the standard I-IV-V 12 bar format. This particular example is especially useful in Jump tunes...it has a jazzy feel. Taylor sometimes hangs on the I for an entire 12 bar chorus. He and Willie Dixon are probably my biggest influences.

Yea. This is cool stuff that we all have probably heard but haven't consciously understood exactly what the guy's doing. Thanks for some ideas I'll use.
