And, of course, there's the "My Generation" Danelectro. I could see myself maxing out a few credit cards to buy that one.
"The Danelectro"? Which one of them? If you want to believe in what the legend says, Entwistle had to go and buy several because the strings kept breaking and there was no place in London where you could get new ones separately.

Anyway, I also think that Sir Paul's Höfner with the setlist from Candlestick Park taped onto it would catch the most money.

Well, how about all three of them hung on my wall with their original broken strings? That might cost a bit at auction.

However, I'd settle for just one of them, even re-strung.

That's right - he broke them all and used a Fender Jazz in the end!!

I think that the Jaco basses seem to show the most interest on ebay - as soon as there is a sniff it is all over the boards!

If we're talking about the most money, then Double Basses fetch way more in legitimate auctions (i.e. not ebay ) - I mean $50 -100k would not be an unusual price, but for something rare - who knows ! Many violins have gone for multi-milion price tags! So no bass would ever come close to the value of the Stradivarius used by Maxim Vengerov, for example!

Everyone forgetting Gene Simmons' "Punisher"?
He didn't do anything special with it but that bloody axe (get it?) is pretty recognizable.

The hofner is referred to as teh beatle bass so i would have to add that as well.

Could someone please explain the Will Lee thing to me because i have only ever seen him on Letterman and in BP. This may have something to do me not living in teh US

Code - I think you just proved a point - Relatively few bass players outside the US know who the hell Will Lee is. Even less know that he is a Sadowsky-a-holic while most dillettante bass players think he's playing a Fender Jazz. Yet, his resume is incredible.

If you see a music legend on TV/video/DVD and the bass player is a blonde, slender, guy - you can bet it's Will Lee.

This thread is undoubtedly influenced by the unfortunate - "who's the greatest bassist?" -threads that show up on Talkbass periodically. That influenced my original post.....I mentioned Jamerson's bass because no one knows where it is, there is a "reward" out for it, and so much music that changed the shape of bass playing was made with it.

Yet, it was just what it meant to me. Most Motown soul and R&B lovers don't know anything about Jamerson, a guy who just laid it out solid and beautiful. The same could be said for Will Lee - he doesn't seem to be interested in having the spotlights on him. Like Jamerson, the "beauty of the art" is enough.
