1991 - Geddy Lee
1992 - Les Claypool
1993 - Victor Wooten
1994 - Michael Manring
1995 - Marcus Miller
1996 - Flea
1997 - Victor Wooten

I haven't seen any other years, so I don't know if they stopped.

Jaco Pastorius is in the Down Beat Hall of Fame.

Geddy Lee is in the Guitar Player Bass Hall of Fame, having won best rock bassist 6 times.

I remember reading somewhere that stated that victor wooten was given player of the decade award, cant remember what magazine.

and while all are no doubt ridiculously accomplished players, the whole "bass player of the month/year/decade" is entirely subjective anyway. never saw it as anything more than a players' popularity contest.

I'm sure I will be flamed for this, but Nikki Sixx on Sixx:AM's Heroin Diaries.
He's nothing special on the Crue stuff, but on this disk he really seems to have made an effort.

By far NOT the best bassist, but I feel he really put an effort into this one.
